Futures

The Futures program initiative is a prevention and intervention strategy designed to connect youth with community support and positive peer interaction resulting in a reduction of high-risk behavior. Futures is a long-term program that embraces the values of respect, responsibility, accountability and community in hopes of creating healthy confident and productive members of society. Identified youth are invited to attend a program weekly at the Manchester Police Athletic League (MPAL) for a school calendar year. During the program, youth will share a meal with mentors. Following the meal, youth will hear from a variety of speakers and engage in activities based on the evening’s topic. Topics will include: Positive decision making, Communication Skills, Conflict Resolution, Anger Management, Leadership, and Teamwork. All topics are designed to build primary skills for success. One week during the summer the group will take daily outdoor adventure trips to put skills such as leadership, team building, negotiation, communication, conflict resolution and self-reflection into real-world practice. Mentors and skilled community volunteers will assist in the design of the program and execution of each day. Transportation will be arranged based on the number of participants attending.

Basic Needs

Basic needs are defined as something that we must have in order to live. Recognizing that our students cannot thrive when they may be worried about basic necessities, this section provides resources across the community where essential services and supports can be found.

Early Childhood

Early childhood education not only prepares our youngest students to be in school, but also supports the development of a child’s social and emotional skills.
